Filming Location Spotlight – “House” (1985)

On the second and fourth Friday of every month in 2020, Limelight Magazine will spotlight the filming location site(s) we visited for some of our favorite (and not so favorite) films. Today we spotlight the filming location for the 1985 movie House which was directed by Steve Miner. The top photo is a screen shot taken from the movie while the photo underneath is what the location looks like today.

The house from this movie is located at 329 Melrose Avenue in Monrovia, CA. When we visited this location, the street was under construction. We attempted to move the recycling bin in front of the house for the photo but the police officer directing traffic would not let us do so. He did allow us to take the photo from our rental car.

FILMING LOCATION SPOTLIGHT – “Friday the 13th: Part 2” (1981)

Since today is Friday the 13th, we’re going to post some of the filming locations of “Friday the 13th: Part 2” (1981) to see what everything looks like today. In June 2015, I ventured to the towns of New Preston and Kent, CT, where much of the movie was filmed. As we did with the filming locations of the original “Friday the 13th” last year, the top photo is a screen shot taken from the movie. The photo underneath it is what the area looks like today. Unfortunately, all of the camp cabins used in the film that were located at North Spectacle Pond in Kent, CT, have been torn down.

‘Falcon Crest’ filming locations

Falcon Crest is an American television show that aired on CBS for nine seasons from December 4, 1981, to May 17, 1990. It aired after Dallas at 10 p.m. on Friday nights for most of its run and a total of 227 episodes were produced. It was a top 30 show for its first six seasons, reaching a peak of #7 during its third season (1983-1984). On a recent trip to Napa Valley, I couldn’t resist taking screen shots from the DVDs of the first two seasons and finding the actual filming locations to see what they looked like today. Unfortunately, I was unable to get any photos at the Spring Mountain Winery which served as the exterior of the estate of Angela Channing (portrayed by the late Jane Wyman).

The original movie “Friday the 13th” was released on May 9, 1980 and today is the 34th anniversary of its release. Last month, we ventured to Blairstown, NJ, and a few other nearby towns where the movie was filmed to see what everything looks like today. Below is our photos from the trip. The top photo is a screen shot taken from the movie. The photo underneath it is what the area looks like today.
