Stryper’s Michael Sweet to rock Plymouth

Michael Sweet

PLYMOUTH – After a sold out performance last year, Michael Sweet, front man of the multi-platinum rock band Stryper, returns to the Spire Center for Performing Arts in Plymouth, Mass., on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 8 p.m. for a special Christmas show. The concert will feature Stryper classics, songs from his solo career, and Christmas staples. Purchase tickets HERE.

With a career and repertoire spanning over three decades, Sweet has fronted one of the most trailblazing groups of the MTV generation, written a stable of Billboard charting singles, filled arenas all the world over, said goodbye at the peak of it all, took stock in a thriving solo career, got Stryper back together for yet another record breaking run and even took a stint co-leading one of the most legendary classic rock acts ever, Boston, from 2007 to 2011.

Musically speaking, Sweet is coming off yet another creative high in the Stryper camp thanks to its 2013’s return to form record No More Hell To Pay. Besides making an instantaneous Top 40 debut on the Billboard 200, it landed at #3 on Top Hard Rock Albums and #6 on Top Rock Albums. It’s certainly a testament to the band’s perseverance, whetting the public’s appetite all the more for Sweet’s I’m Not Your Suicide, which may technically be the follow-up to 2007’s individual offering Touched, but is actually the singer/songwriter’s first full-length original album since 2000’s Truth.

For this special intimate show at The Spire, Sweet will take you on a journey throughout his musical career, performing songs and sharing stories in an unforgettable evening of stellar musicianship. Local band Shell Shock opens the show!

The Spire is located at 25 ½ Court Street in Plymouth. The venue features superior acoustics, custom state of the art lighting and sound systems, and original period architectural details, offering patrons an exceptional performing arts experience.

Advance tickets are available through brownpapertickets.com or through the venue’s website, spirecenter.org.

Barre’s sound and playing have been a major factor in Jethro Tull’s success. Album sales have exceeded 60 million units and they continue to be played worldwide, representing an important part of classic rock history.

Barre’s guitar playing has earned him a high level of respect and recognition. He was voted 25th best solo ever in the USA and 20th best solo ever in the UK for his playing on “Aqualung”. His playing on the album “Crest of a Knave” earned him a Grammy award in 1988. He also influenced such contemporary guitarists as Joe Bonamassa, Steve Vai, Joe Satrini and Eric Johnson.

As well as numerous Jethro Tull albums, Barre has worked with many other artists including Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Gary Moore, and Chris Thompson and has shared the stage with such legends as Jimmy Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

As Jethro Tull is taking a long break from touring, Barre has put together a band to play the “classic” music from the Tull catalogue. His band, under the title of Martin Barre’s New Day, is a total commitment to give Tull fans and a broader audience the chance to hear tracks not performed for many years. The band includes other members of Tull and top musicians from a similar background.

Cheryl Wheeler to perform at The Spire in Plymouth

Cheryl Wheeler
Cheryl Wheeler

As part of our publisher’s singer-songwriter series in Plymouth, Mass., Cheryl Wheeler, a folk icon who must be seen to be appreciated, will perform at The Spire Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased HERE.

Wheeler is known for her gifted songwriting, beautiful voice, and entertaining stage presence.

Even if you are not already familiar with Wheeler, you’ve probably already heard her music. Mixing keen insight with humor and pathos, her songs have been covered by artists like Peter, Paul and Mary, Suzy Bogguss, Kenny Loggins, Garth Brooks, Bette Midler, and more.

From other people’s comments about her, you learn that she is a natural storyteller with a fantastic sense of humor. But until you see her in person, you never really believe what you’ve been told about her. Interestingly enough, almost half of the songs she performs during her shows have never been recorded!

Her first public performance was at a Hootenanny when she was 12. She started writing her own songs when she was 17. Her funny stories between songs reveal her talent for diversity. Each time she tells a story, it will be a little bit different, so even if you’ve heard it before, you still find yourself laughing.

The Spire is located at 25 ½ Court Street in Plymouth. The venue features superior acoustics, custom state of the art lighting and sound systems and original period architectural details, offering patrons an exceptional performing arts experience.

Advance tickets are available through brownpapertickets.com or through the venue’s website, spirecenter.org. Tickets will be also available at The Spire on the day of show.

Crystal Bowersox to perform with Caroline Glaser (of ‘The Voice) in Plymouth

Crystal Bowersox
Crystal Bowersox

PLYMOUTH – Season nine “American Idol” runner-up Crystal Bowersox will make her debut appearance at the Spire Center for Performing Arts in Plymouth, Mass., on November 12, 2014, at 8 p.m. Caroline Glaser, a fan favorite on season 4 of NBC’s “The Voice,” will open the show. Don’t miss your chance to experience two incredibly talented singer-songwriters with amazing voices in an intimate venue. Tickets can be purchased HERE. Enter GLASER as the “password or discount code” to get $5 off per ticket.

Since wowing audience members and judges with original songs and covers of The Beatles, Sheryl Crow, and many others during the “American Idol” competition, Bowersox has become a stand out singer/songwriter whose work spans many genres, from blues and country to folk and rock. She has released two records, the most recent being the country/soul accented “All That for This” in 2013, which opened to widespread critical acclaim and boasted a guest duet with Jakob Dylan. She is currently recording a new E.P. for release in early 2015.

Meanwhile, Glaser was your typical first year college student, performing isolated open mic nights at her local coffee shops and making videos on her YouTube page, when she auditioned for NBC’s “The Voice.” The judges were overwhelmed with affection, and the world watching was smitten. Adam Levine from Maroon 5 described Caroline’s voice as “ethereal, magic and wonderful.” Usher renamed himself “Gusher.”

Ultimately, Glaser didn’t win the highly-rated vocal competition, but she made a real connection with an instant fanbase begging for more. She will be the first to admit she is only a handful of steps into a long uphill road ahead, but is embracing this exciting opportunity to further develop as an “indie-folk” artist. The singer-songwriter is ever so grateful for the fans who encourage her along the way, and ecstatic to start playing and releasing music for them.

Howie Day to perform with Ayla Brown in Plymouth

Howie Day
Howie Day

Singer-songwriter Howie Day, who is best known for his top 40 hits “Collide” and “She Says,” will be making his debut performance at the Spire Center for Performing Arts in Plymouth, Mass., on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Ayla Brown, who placed 13th on the fifth season of “American Idol,” will open the show. Purchase tickets HERE or through the venue’s website HERE.

In late 2004 and early 2005, Day was everywhere. Stop the World Now, his second album, went gold and the hit song from that record, “Collide”, became Epic Record’s first platinum single with 1.5 million downloads. For several months, “Collide” was ubiquitous, appearing on the soundtracks of popular television shows, Cold Case, Scrubs, Grey’s Anatomy, Bones and One Tree Hill, as well as the promotional trailer of new adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Day, who infiltrated the Boston Coffeehouse circuit at 17, developed a huge college fan base and opened for the likes of Sting, Sheryl Crow, and Tori Amos, exploded into the national consciousness.

But of course, there’s more to Day than that. Known for his powerful one-man shows, Day connects with audiences through his charm, humor, and warm tenor voice that “soars into fluttering, high registers, but also grates with real, pleading grit,” as one critic put it. Now with a third album under his belt and even more new material recorded since its 2009 release, Day has a lot more to listen to. Come see what he’s been up to!

Like Day, Brown is a singer-song-writer who has accomplished many things in her young life. After placing 13th on season 5 of American Idol she made hundreds of personal appearances in the New England area and developed a very strong musical fan base. She is a supporter of a Massachusetts-based military non-profit, called, Hugs for Heroes, Inc., and gave a portion of the proceeds from her seven-song EP, Heroes & Hometowns, to the non-profit. Brown also serves as spokesperson for the Songs of Love Foundation, an organization that creates free, personalized, original songs to uplift children and teens who are facing tough medical conditions. Sponsored by Hilton Hotels, Brown is currently traveling all over the country performing for local morning TV shows and ‘staying in style’. She is also busy writing for her next album, and is excited to be performing at The Spire.

The Spire is located at 25 ½ Court Street in Plymouth. The venue features superior acoustics, custom state of the art lighting and sound systems and original period architectural details, offering patrons an exceptional performing arts experience. Tickets will also be available on the day of the show at the venue.
